Danger was averted on Monday as a private jet lost one of its front wheel and tyres while landing at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
According to aviation sources, the incident disrupted flight operations for hours and also created panic on the part of the passengers of other airlines who could not land on scheduled times.

“Accidents and obstructions are common at this airport as there is only one runway at the airport of the nation’s capital,” the source told an online medium.

Officials of the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and other relevant bodies were at the scene to see how to evacuate the private jet from the runway to enable other flights operate.
As of press time, the owner of the private jet and the details of those onboard could not be ascertained.

Efforts to get more details on the incident from the NCAA spokesperson, Sam Adurogboye, proved abortive as he promised to get back to our reporter when contacted.
